Peak Wilderness Sanctuary
The forest around Adam’s Peak in Peak Wilderness Sanctuary is, according to legend, the exact place where Adam set foot after being driven from paradise. Others believe the huge “footprint” at the top was that of Buddha, St. Thomas or Lord Shiva. Whatever—it’s a beautiful and fascinating place, with a splendid array of birds, butterflies, and other wildlife, best seen during the pilgrimage season December–April. The peak is a climb of several hours, mostly stairs, to the impressive view from the top (best at dawn).
